RJOS/AOFAS 2020 Physician Wellness Webinar Series

RJOS, in a collaborative effort with the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), is pleased to present the Physician Wellness webinar series, supported by Wright Medical Group N.V.    

The first webinar, titled Peer Support, was held on Wednesday, November  11, 2020 and disucssed discuss using and implementing peer support programs, how peer support works, ethical dilemmas and adverse events, and the case for peer support. Jothi Murali-Larson, MD moderated this webinar, with Kiran Gupta, MD, Ray Shaheen, MD and Casey J. Humbyrd, MD serving as faculty.

The second webinar, titled Physician Suicide, was held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 8:00 to 9:00 pm Central Time and will present information on suicide demographics, identification of physicians at risk and signs of suicidal intent, and strategies for understanding and addressing this problem. Faculty will discuss personal and collective journeys with suicide for increased awareness, empathy, and support to prevent suicide. Marlene DeMaio, MD, FAAOS will moderate the second webinar with Edward McDevitt, MD, FAAOS and Loice Swisher, MD, FAAEM serving as faculty.

The final webinar in this series, titled Second Victim Syndrome, was held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 8:00 to 9:00 pm Central Time. Second victims are healthcare providers who are involved in an unanticipated adverse patient event, medical error, and/or a patient-related injury and become victimized in the sense that the provider is traumatized by the event. Involvement in medical/surgical errors can have a lasting impact on healthcare providers, including lack of concentration, burnout, depression, poor memory, decreased clinical confidence, and impaired work performance. This webinar will discuss second victim syndrome and how to cope with difficult complications and unhappy patients. Julie B. Samora, MD, PhD will moderate the final webinar with MaCalus V. Hogan, MD, MBA and Mary K. Mulcahey, MD serving as faculty.
