Research Grant Opportunities

The Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) is pleased to offer the following grant and scholarship opportunities in 2018.  Grant applications will be posted in early summer with an anticipated submission deadline in the fall.  Watch for additional information on this page and in email communications from RJOS.

  • 2018 RJOS Clinical/Basic Science Research Grant 
    • Provides seed/start-up funding for promising clinical or basic science research projects. Preference will be given to topics related to women's musculoskeletal health issues. The review criteria for applications include the project’s significance, its investigator(s), its innovation, its approach, the environment, and its budget. The recipient will receive a maximum of $30,000.00.   This grant is open to Active and Candidate members of RJOS in good standing who are Board Certified or Board eligible. Residents and Student members are not eligible to apply for this grant. Attendance at the 2018 RJOS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA is required. Recipient will present a poster during the 2019 RJOS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV.

  • 2018 Alexandra Kirkley MD Academic Traveling Fellowship 
    • Allows orthopaedic physicians to travel in order to enrich their academic careers. The Fellowship award is contingent upon submitted travel, room, and board receipts, not to exceed $5,000. This Fellowship is open to Active and Candidate members of RJOS in good standing. Travel must be completed by June 30, 2018 and the final report, with expenses, must be submitted no later than July 15, 2018.   Attendance at the RJOS 2018 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA is required. The recipient will present a five-minute presentation regarding your fellowship experience at the 2019 RJOS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV.  

  • 2018 Jacquelin Perry, MD Resident Research Grant 
    • Encourages orthopaedic residents to submit abstracts of clinical and basic science research projects. This grant is open to RJOS resident members in good standing who are currently enrolled in an accredited orthopaedic surgical residency program. (The resident applicant must be the primary investigator.) The grant is awarded to assist the recipient with their travel expenses associated with Annual Meeting attendance.   Attendance at the RJOS 2018 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA is required. The recipient will present a poster of their work during the 2018 RJOS Annual Program of Events.

  • 2018 Resident Annual Meeting Scholarship 
    • Encourages orthopaedic residents to attend the RJOS 2018 Annual Program of Events. Recipients are selected based on academic achievements and leadership. The scholarship is awarded to assist the recipient with their travel expenses associated with RJOS Annual Program of Events attendance. Recipients also receive a RJOS member mentor. This scholarship is open to RJOS Resident members in good standing. Attendance at the RJOS 2018 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA is required.

  • 2018 Medical Student Annual Meeting Scholarship
    • Encourages medical students to attend the RJOS 2018 Annual Program of Events to learn more about the field of orthopaedic surgery. Recipients are selected based on achievements in academics, leadership, mentoring and community service/volunteerism. The scholarship is awarded to assist the recipient with their travel expenses associated with RJOS Annual Program of Events attendance. Recipients also receive a RJOS member mentor. This scholarship is open to RJOS medical Student members in good standing. Attendance at the RJOS 2018 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA is required.
